A woman returns home after the mauling death of her childhood friend, only to discover that the dark figure haunting her town may be inseparable from the toxic legacy of her once-famous mother.
Working in the theatre scene of London, Angela never planned to come home. But after a string of violent deaths, the small town she tried to escape drags her back. Whispers spread of sightings of a monstrous figure, eerily similar to the villain in her mother’s cult 1970s Giallo film. The film’s set was notorious for its unexplained violent occurrences and sadistic director.
Sleeping again in her childhood bedroom, Angela is surrounded by the things she ran away from: memories of her younger sister whose death her parents can’t speak of, an ex-boyfriend still holding secrets over her and the truth about a near-tragedy from the past.
As another of her friends is brutally murdered, Angela fears she is next. To survive, she must confront the terrible truth of why she never wanted to come home.
For fans of Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects and the film phenomenon The Substance, The Kind and Unkind Girls is wild and deliciously original.
