Alan Joyce is no ordinary businessman – running Australia's national carrier (which has been a private company for some time) as Qantas CEO - he has been in the spotlight from all sides, media, politicians, unions, and the very nationalistic Australian public. Highly successful, he has navigated Qantas through the most turbulent times in aviation, mothballing a whole fleet of planes during the pandemic and coming out the other side with the airline still intact when others have ended up in administration or worse. He is the most high profile openly gay businessman in Australia and has been a vocal supporter of same sex marriage to the chagrin of the conservative media and politicians.

In this book he intends to tell his whole story – from growing up in Dublin – his mum a cleaner, his dad a tobacco factory worker and how he became the very first person in his extended family to be educated at a tertiary level. He will explore how he got into aviation, joining the Irish national carrier, followed by moving to Australia to work at Ansett (just as it was about to go into administration), then Qantas becoming CEO of the newly created Jetstar and finally CEO of Qantas for more than a decade.
